Wabtec (WAB) delivered earnings and revenue surprises of 0.85% and 4.92%, respectively, for the quarter ended December 2021. Do the numbers hold clues to what lies ahead for the stock?

Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies (WAB) came out with quarterly earnings of $1.18 per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.17 per share. This compares to earnings of $0.98 per share a year ago. These figures are adjusted for non-recurring items.

This quarterly report represents an earnings surprise of 0.85%. A quarter ago, it was expected that this maker of parts for locomotives, subways and buses would post earnings of $1.13 per share when it actually produced earnings of $1.14, delivering a surprise of 0.88%.

Over the last four quarters, the company has surpassed consensus EPS estimates four times.

Wabtec, which belongs to the Zacks Transportation - Equipment and Leasing industry, posted revenues of $2.07 billion for the quarter ended December 2021, missing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 4.92%. This compares to year-ago revenues of $2.02 billion. The company has topped consensus revenue estimates two times over the last four quarters.

The sustainability of the stock's immediate price movement based on the recently-released numbers and future earnings expectations will mostly depend on management's commentary on the earnings call.

Wabtec shares have lost about 2.6% since the beginning of the year versus the S&P 500's decline of -6.2%.

This industrial manufacturer is expected to post quarterly earnings of $0.11 per share in its upcoming report, which represents a year-over-year change of +175%. The consensus EPS estimate for the quarter has remained unchanged over the last 30 days.

Trinity Industries' revenues are expected to be $470.8 million, up 13.3% from the year-ago quarter.
